CARRA Large Grant Application

CARRA Large Grant

CARRA Large Grant (up to $50,000)

This funding opportunity supports the development and publication of a clinical or translational project which will immediately impact research projects within CARRA or result in a larger collaborative grant that furthers the CARRA mission. New or early investigators are encouraged to apply and will be afforded special consideration. Applications may be for all-inclusive clinical or translational research projects or pilot/preliminary research projects that if successful, could lead to extramural funding. Preference will be given to submissions which are collaborative and leverage current CARRA network resources or will further develop the CARRA network. CARRA has one large grant submission cycle per year and will award up to 2 projects. Submission of a letter of intent is required by September 1, 2017. Full applications are due October 1, 2017.

  • A given investigator can only apply for one large grant per year.
  • The first deadline is for the Letter of Intent (LOI). All LOIs are due by September 1, 2017. The submission deadline for the application is October 1, 2017. Late submissions will not receive funding consideration.
  • Funds will be provided to the awardee through a contract between the PI’s institution and CARRA with no more than 8% indirects.
  • The project period is one year from the date of award.
  • A project report is required upon completion of the project or end of project period, whichever occurs first.
  • Awardees are expected to submit an abstract and attend the CARRA Annual Meeting.
  • If there is an unexpended balance at the end of the project period, a statement from the PI detailing the project status and forward plan for completion is required. There is no requirement for an accounting statement or formal application for a no cost extension.
  • If the PI is unable to complete the project, any unexpended balance will be returned to CARRA.
  • This is a total costs award. If indirects are requested, they must be inclusive of the maximum funding amount of $50,000. Indirects may not exceed 8%.
  • If requested, CARRA generally accepts up to $25K for salary support with a larger amount considered only under special circumstances with adequate justification.
  • Complete a one-page LOI on institution letterhead by September 1, 2017. The LOI should be a one-page letter which summarizes your ultimate full proposal. Contents should include the name of your institution and a short description and aims of the project involved. You should also include how your project fits CARRA’s guidelines and funding interests. The LOI is for informational purposes only, and approval is not needed to proceed with the full application.
